| TV and time have always been inseperable. You could set your watch by the TV and organise your time around its scheduled broadcasts. | ![]() |
But with the rise in popularity of PVR services like Sky+ and Tivo, there is an important shift going on. You can take control of the broadcast. These companies like to market their services as if you were actually manipulating time, and in a way you are. My first concept was a clock which displayed this relationship between "real" and "TV" time. |
| From here I thought about a similar system but one which let you move the hands of the clock to manipulate the broadcast's point in time. |
However, the setting of a physical clock seemed a little implausable. I decided to move the interaction to the remote control, as an alternative navigational interface. The idea was to provide a compromise between scheduled and on-demand broadcast. Using concentric jog wheels, you can scrub through the hours and minutes of the next and previous 12 hours of content. A third jog wheel allows you to access channels. Once you have scrubbed through to the programme that you want to watch, simply let go of the wheel and it will start playing. |
